Peak Forest, Edale and Hope

Although the day started off with cloud cover on the 26th of July, it soon cleared to glorious sunshine. We started our day with a short hop to Peak Forest, where 60045 was espied being parked before 66188 moved from near the former station and was coupled to a rake of JGA wagons.

We then took a lull in movements to motor north a short way to Edale, deep in the heart of the Derbyshire National Park. Parking the car at the station, we took a pleasant lengthy walk pausing on the overbridges that cross the line east of the portal of Cowburn Tunnel. About an hour after leaving it at PF, 66188 reappeared, trailing dust from the rear of its train.

Later in the day we paused at Hope station to record the passage of some local trains.

Before returning to Matlock, it seemed prudent to call again at Peak Forest, the sun moves around to a more beneficial angle in the afternoon, just to see if anything of interest had turned up. Snaps were taken of still parked 60045 as fitters attempted to bring 60071 to life on the fuel road.

A fabulous day, sun, scenery, some trains thrown in for good measure and a few pints of Kronenbourg at the end of the day, perfect!
