Summer seems to have fizzled out for the best part. After a week of blazing hot weather, it's now much cooler. Shadows had been growing precluding my usual afternoon commute snap anyway, but I took a punt on 4L85 yesterday as the light was neutral. Interestingly the Fred's passage through a rain shower earlier in its journey gives it the look of a recent repaint!
With the general rundown of the BR/Brush Class 60 locomotive in full swing, plus the wonder of modern technology which is the mobile phone equipped with camera and Blogger, this blog will attempt to keep you informed as to the activities of the Class in its final days/months/years (?). It's also an excuse to have a dip into other items of interest to a typical rail enthusiast and of course, have the occasional rant!
The Great Eastern Freighter
It makes a change, this tour was in our neck of the woods but with money tight negating the opportunity to travel on it, Dad and I took the motor out and chased it instead.
I mostly used the video to record its passage (and will post footage next time I'm on the Mac) but a recent software acquisition on the phone is "Frame Grabber" for Xperia. A super little bit of code, it'll allow you to turn a frame from video into a medium sized jpeg, just the thing with the camera doing its funny business lately!
Harwich
We took the motor out for a drive on Friday, initially for a recce of possible phot locations around Ardleigh in Essex. There's a reason the area is not featured in the enthusiast mags, there are no phot locations!
Undeterred and to make the most of the weather, we headed for Harwich. A town full of history, my main interest was the remnants of the train ferry.
Harrumph, harrumph!
The Xperia is still playing silly buggers, I attempted the phot attached of 4L85 yesterday. Regular readers will note it's in the same location as previous afternoon commute snaps.
I don't know which is more annoying, the fact it's not working properly or that it's inconsistent in which pictures it does it...grr.
Trimley Travels
Last Friday Dad and I had a wander around the Trimley area. Must've walked the best part of five miles I reckon, I'll stick to the docks next time I think!
